Newton Ward raises £458.50

During a patient-led ‘ Mutual Help Meeting’ in January patients decided to organise a Ward Fete to raise money for a cervical cancer charity. The ward also campaigned to raise awareness of cervical screening and explore the services available to patients on Newton Ward.
Carys Allen (Lead General Nurse) helped coordinate and supported the event, due to her involvement with Cervical Screening Wales. Carys arranged for Cervical Screening Wales to visit the ward to help raise awareness of their services and support the development of screening opportunities for patients at Caswell Clinic.

Plans for organising the fundraising day were firmly in place and it was agreed by the patients and staff that the money raised would be donated to Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, a UK charity dedicated to women affected by cervical cancer.
Patients on Newton Ward led the arrangements and organised various activities.

These included:

 Dress down day
Cake sale
Raffles
Mocktail stall
Keyring sale (supported by the OT dept. who knitted owl keyrings)
Stocks
Clothes/ accessory sale
Hot dogs

In addition to these, Jo’s Trust provided wristbands for sale and collection boxes. The event was also supported by Lou Lou Boutique, a local independent business, who donated numerous clothes and accessories from their shop, which were all sold on the day.
The Fete was open to all wards in Caswell Clinic and non- ward based staff. The support was fantastic and many came to the ward to take part in the activities, meet each other and raise awareness.
