Shaw Trust with Update and News

Spring 2006 Chat Issue

Hello again!!

May I firstly thank the producers of Caswell Chat for inviting me to write another article about Shaw Trust and how we may be able to offer support and guidance to patients at the Clinic.

I dare say that there are some readers who may have missed the first article or that may be still unaware of Shaw Trust services and how they could potentially benefit them. For these people, a reminder – the Shaw Trust is an organisation that is dedicated to working with people who have health conditions or disabilities that place them at a disadvantage in securing work or training opportunities. We aim to provide the appropriate level of support for each person through accurately assessing what they need in order to achieve their goals. This year alone Shaw Trust employment have assisted approximately 8,800 people into work and many more onto training courses

With the joint financial support of Shaw Trust and Caswell Clinic, a number of people here have already enrolled onto academic training courses that will give them the skills and knowledge to help achieve their future employment goals. I hope that these people will continue to thrive on the challenge of their studies, but a reminder to them that I can be contacted if any problems arise.

Another potential option that we may be able to offer are work placements aimed at enhancing the individuals practical skills ad experience as well as to examine health limitations at work and re-establish basic job-keeping skills. These placements are unpaid and last for a maximum of 13 weeks. People interested in a work placement could initially discuss the idea with their O.T. before contacting me if such a service would be considered beneficial and not detrimental to their health condition.

We are approaching our first anniversary of joint working with the team at Caswell Clinic, and I must offer them a big thank you for their assistance so far. I am happy to confirm our ongoing commitment to support both the patients and staff alike, and I hope that Shaw Trust will continue to be seen as a positive figure in the therapeutic development of patients here.

It is still intended that I will come to the Clinic on the first Monday of every month when anyone wishing to sit down with me to discuss a developmental activity like training course or similar can arrange to do so through their allocated O.T.(Occupational Therapy)

I look forward to seeing familiar faces and also hopefully some new ones in the near future.
