Beating The Winter Blues Cardigan Ward Style
Chat Issue 25 Spring 2009
On Wednesday 28th of January Cardigan Ward arranged a "fun day" for the clinic. The ward was decorated with balloons and buntings -many thanks to Jodie and DaveF for their work in putting them up.
There was a small entrance fee of 50p for staff and 20p for patients which gave tea and coffee as well as cakes. The entrance fee was ably manned by SuzieB. It was nice to see patients and staff there.. In fact, there were about 50 people who visited the ward during the fun day.
There were numerous activities such as:
- Landing an aeroplane on a strip.
- Lift the sweets from a container where LeahE nearly got the hang of it!
- Guess the bears name
- Face Painting competition
- The stocks in the courtyard. It was a little cold but dry. PeterG and VaughanB put themselves forward and got a right soaking. (see photos)
- Guess the clowns name (this was more difficult than you think!!) Kamal was flummoxed. In the end the clown showed himself as AndyD. He was foolish enough to put his head in the stocks and also got soaked.
- The raffle: There were numerous prizes including hampers, a marsh mallow cake (thank you SueC) and a teddy bear – thank you to all who contributed.
The amount raised for ward funds was £204 and a big thank you to every one who contributed. However, what mattered was not the amount raised but how everyone joined in to make it a success. The activity co-ordinators worked with the ward staff and patients. The CPN´s and Doctors came to support the day. Thanks to all staff and patients for buying raffle tickets. A big thank you to Val who was the chief organiser and motivator for the fun day.
This was am amazing example of team work, which the Clinic as a whole can be proud of. Best of all everyone enjoyed themselves and the objective of beating the winter blues, for a while at least, was achieved!! Hopefully another event may be arranged in the summer.
