Me & My Hobbies

Chat Issue Autumn 20007

It all started on a sunny afternoon at our harbour. A woman came up to me and asked me questions .She told me that she is from South Africa. We had a nice conversation. At the end when we had to part we exchanged our addresses. That was 29 years ago and we are still going strong. I even managed to visit her in Johannesburg and she came to see me twice in this country.

Writing to Cosette wetted my appetite. I always wanted to go to different countries and see the world, but never had the money to fulfil my dreams. So I thought the next best thing would be for me to have more pen friends. This way I could visit the countries from my house and at the price of a stamp. So I sent for a list of addresses. I was sent 16 and my name got put forward to 16 different people.mixure of postage stamps To cut a long story short I ended up with 24 names from around the world. It spans from Japan to Australia, from Brazil to Canada and to Africa and not to forget my German pen friends. I enjoy writing and love to receive letters back.

My other hobby. . . .

some of Liz's homemade cards

That brings me to my other hobby – card making. I thought it would be nice to send homemade cards abroad So I started 4 years ago and now have a collection in my room, at Ogmore ward. I use different materials (quelling, stickers, CDs). Most of my cards are for a Birthday and I also make plain cards for people to write their own verses inside. I have now about 50 cards and can′t stop making more because I love it. It is relaxing and the time flies past. I think the enjoyment I get for making cards I can share with other people. So I started selling them at 70p per card which just covers my outlay. Hopefully I can sell them to make room for more cards. I am selling them in the new Shop so please come and see them for yourself.

In the meantime I will be busy writing to my pen friends. Christmas is coming up and I will be busy making cards for this celebration. If you get lonely get yourself a writing friend and enjoy the world from your armchair!
