Trip to Royal Welsh Show - July 2004
Staff members Heather (OT) and Morgan took CeriW and myself on a day trip to the Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells (Mid Wales). The Royal Welsh is a shop window onto agriculture in Wales and is one of the oldest agricultural shows in the UK. Both Ceri and myself have been going to the show since we were little so we knew what to expect (even missing traffic due to Ceri′s knowledge of back roads) - in fact the show attracts around 200,000 visitors every year!
Once there we looked at various livestock including pigs, cattle and sheep; the latter were being sheared in a race. The show features 6500 farm animals and there are around 1000 trade stands covering the whole farming community and rural life in Wales. We then saw farming machines plus luxury cars which were on show.
We then had a pint and a bite to eat with my cousins (I hadn′t seen them for 5 years) before setting of for Caswell at 4.00 p.m. having seen much of the show, but there was still plenty to do and see if there was only more time.

National Botanic Garden of Wales
Four of us from Ffaldau accompanied by staff set off for the National Botanic Garden of Wales on a sunny afternoon in August. What we discovered on arrival were attractive, well laid out gardens with various water features, leading up to the famous greenhouse, which is the largest single span glasshouse in the world. This is filled with weird and wonderful plants from all over the world and is fascinating to wonder around. Back outside there are many pleasant seating and picnic areas.
There were other gardens, interesting things indoors - including a fabulous gift shop and nice cafes one of which was in an unusually grand marquee complete with chandeliers where we stopped for a much needed cuppa.
I was the only one who couldn't complain about the amount of walking to be done as I had the loan of one of the battery powered trolleys available for those who have difficulty getting around so that even disabled people can get as much enjoyment from this beautiful place.
